Enterprise Data Management & Products (EDMP), a key part of our Technology organization, focuses on delivering data products that fuel business growth and unlock value, while also shaping robust data management strategies and governance solutions. Our aim is to propel growth, unlock potential, enhance efficiency, manage risk, and foster talent. By prioritizing enterprise growth across all sectors, we create solutions that enhance satisfaction and value, streamline operations for scalability, and maintain trust and security.

Role Description:

  • We are hiring a Senior Product Manager – Enterprise Lineage to define, scale, and institutionalize lineage as a core enterprise capability at American Express.

  • This leader will own the long-term vision and roadmap for automated, end-to-end lineage across application code, distributed processing engines, rule frameworks, cloud-native services, mainframe systems, and reporting layers.

  • The environment spans modern engineering stacks (Java, Python, Spark, Scala, Beam, Flink, Go), rule engines (Drools, MVEL), GCP ecosystems, and legacy mainframe platforms. The mandate is clear\: build scalable, reliable, production-grade lineage that supports report traceability, regulatory compliance, impact analysis, and enterprise data quality.

  • This role operates at the intersection of architecture, regulatory risk, data governance, and platform engineering. It carries executive visibility and requires both technical depth and strategic product leadership.

What Makes This Role Distinct:

  • You will shape how lineage is standardized across the enterprise — preventing fragmentation and duplicated solutions.

  • You will influence technology scanner roadmap priorities and vendor alignment.

  • You will operate in a report-driven activation model that materially expands lineage scope.

  • You will define how column-level traceability and transformation intelligence scale across distributed architectures.

  • You will build a product that directly impacts regulatory confidence and operational risk posture.

  • This is an opportunity to architect lineage at enterprise scale, not just manage incremental enhancements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute the enterprise lineage vision and multi-year roadmap.

  • Prioritize scanner development across Java, Python, Spark, Scala, Beam, Flink, Go, Drools, MVEL, GCP, and Mainframe.

  • Drive end-to-end lineage stitching across applications, processing layers, cloud platforms, and reporting systems.

  • Translate regulatory, reporting, and data quality requirements into scalable product capabilities.

  • Establish lineage as the enterprise standard and mitigate risk of BUDO-level fragmentation.

  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Risk, Compliance, Data Offices, and Engineering to drive adoption and measurable impact.

  • Define success metrics tied to regulatory traceability, report lineage coverage, and data quality enablement.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of Product Management experience in enterprise data platforms, lineage, metadata, or distributed data systems.

  • Deep technical understanding of lineage mechanics\: parsing engines, column-level traceability, cross-system stitching, transformation logic interpretation.

  • Experience operating in highly regulated, complex financial or enterprise environments.

  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and align cross-functional engineering and governance teams.

  • Strong executive presence with the ability to translate technical depth into business impact.
